drive across the high desert

Absolutely one of my favorites of my abstracted landscapes! Inspired by a summertime drive out Carson way — that vast high desert landscape north of Ojo Caliente and on the way toward Taos and the Rio Grande. I was out there on this particular drive to capture the land and sky with my camera, for inspiration for a painting request for a friend looking for an image for the cover of her novel set in Carson. This painting, in fact, started as a modest "traditional" landscape. But it became much more daring and imaginative an image when I started to abstract it. Now it conveys to me a far richer sense of the high desert than its earlier iteration. I just love it!
