new mexico sky musing, no. 7 ~ potential energy
This painting exudes energy for me. Which is kind of interesting, because the composition isn't at all energetic. But that clouds just feels like a mass of electricity about to release. Adding to that feeling is the contrast of the lightest part of the cloud against that deep dark nearly black corner of sky. Plus the choppy rhythm of marks throughout the cloud and the bits of text turned at different angles suggest movement. This, for me, is a painting expressing potential energy about to burst forth.
